How I started enjoying putting the kids to sleep
Before I post what healed me, kids stuff, and “this is it”, I want to talk about putting the kids to bed… its funny, it is something that use to triggered me a lot, maybe because my daughter is usually super hyped before bed time, and yes, I am the mom that “yells” “stop moving it is time to sleep”. My son falls asleep in an instant, and my daughter moves around like she is in an aerobics class and at the same time she keeps telling me that she can’t sleep… I am calm and understanding for the first five minutes and then after 5 minutes, I catch myself yelling (ok maybe yelling is a bit exagerated, but I say it in a angry voice) “stop moving!!!” 1 minute later… “stop moving”… 20 seconds later “stop moving it is time to sleep” 5 seconds later “stop moving”.
Yes you get the point…
I never thought I would say this, but now, our bedtime ritual has become something I really look forward to. And I hope that I am able to put them to bed for a long time coming. I think the main switch happened when I started doing bed time meditations with them. Sometimes they fall asleep during the meditations, but almost always, even if they are awake after the meditations, everything seems calmer. It could be that I am also more relaxed after reading a meditation, so it automatically changes the mood.
Something that really stuck during my studies on learning how to guide meditations, is how much the body learns and retains during a state of meditation. It is great tool to use if you would like to help children (and adults) unblock things. For example, stage fright, or having thoughts that they are not good enough, teaching them to use tools to cleanse their energy, or help them ease pain, healing trauma… the list goes on and on.
But, I guess all I want to say is that, after reading a good night meditation to the kids, I also feel fulfilled. Depending on what it was for, I feel like I gave the children a good tool. So I end the day on a bit of a high. If you think this is something that you would like to try out, and would like a specific meditation for your child, just send me a DM.
Much love,
Susan
